⇒PHOTOPHORE, subst. masc.
A. —BIOL. Organe luminescent ou photogène pouvant émettre une certaine lumière. Ces organes sont (...) des organes producteurs de lumière et peuvent être désignés sous la dénomination générale de photophores (E. PERRIER, Zool., t.3, 1903, p.2510).
B. —Usuel. Porte-bougie surmonté d'un verre servant à protéger la flamme. Un gros insecte est entré par la fenêtre. Il bourdonne, rebondit des murs crépis au globe du photophore, et enfin, vaincu, les ailes brûlées par la bougie encore haute, il s'abat sur la feuille blanche (BENOIT, Atlant., 1919, p.13). La lueur haletante de la bougie dans le photophore au verre plus qu'à demi brisé (GIDE, Retour Tchad, 1928, p.920).
C. —TECHNOLOGIE
